17-year old boy and two younger brothers injured in crash at Molong

Apr 23, 2019

MOLONG, Central West, NSW, Australia – Three boys aged between 11 and seventeen have been injured in a single-vehicle crash in the NSW Central West, the second crash in the area in an hour.

The incident occurred at around 5:00pm on Easter Monday in Molong, about 30 kilometres northwest of Orange.

Police say a 17-year-old boy and his two brothers, aged eleven and 12, were in a vehicle heading east on Rutherford Road, Molong, when the vehicle lost control and hit a tree.

The vehicle rolled and ejected the 17-year-old boy, who police believe was driving, causing him to become trapped under the car.

His two brothers managed to free themselves from the car and run for help.

Assistance came from several adults at a nearby property who managed to free the trapped boy from the car and administer first aid.

Two of the boys, the seventeen-year old and the 11-year old, were air-lifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead suffering cuts and abrasions; they remain stable.

The 12-year-old boy was taken to Orange Health Service suffering lower leg injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Inquiries into the crash are being carried out by officers from the Central West Police District, who are also investigating a crash just an hour earlier on the Mitchell Highway at Orange, where a Chifley Highway Patrol vehicle collided with a utility carrying four people. Orange Health Service was kept busy Monday afternoon as all five occupants of that crash were treated there, together with the 12-year old boy, injured in the crash an hour later.
