70-year old man arrested over death of motorcyclist in Central West

CENTRAL WEST, NSW – A Central West man has been charged over the death of a motorcyclist in a collision on New Year’s Eve.

The motorcyclist was killed as a result of a collision between his motorbike and a utility. He died at the scene of the crash, which was on the Mitchell Highway in Maryvale, just north of Wellington near Dubbo just before 9:00pm on 31 December 2019.

The driver of the ute, a man, and a woman passenger sustained a number of injuries and were airlifted to Orange Base Hospital.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, on Sunday a 70-year-old man was arrested and charged at Orange Police Station.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wellington Local Court (pictured) on Thursday 19 March 2020.

He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing bodily harm through misconduct.

There have been a spate of deaths on New South Wales Central Roads, with four being recorded in just the past week.
