ATP Roundup: Zverev, Schwartzman to battle in final at Cologne

Oct 25, 2020

Top-seeded Alexander Zverev recorded seven aces while recording a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Saturday to reach the final of the bett1HULKS Championship at Cologne, Germany.

The German’s strong effort avenged a loss to Sinner in the round of 16 at the recent French Open. “That was still in the back of my head,” Zverev said. “I was not going to lose today.”

Zverev will face second-seeded Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in the title match. Schwartzman posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over fifth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the other semifinal.

European Open

Eighth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur outlasted fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-4 to advance to the championship match at Antwerp, Belgium.

The match was tied in the third set before de Minaur won the final two games to knock out the Bulgarian. The finals appearance will be the first of the year for de Minaur.

France’s Ugo Humbert will be de Minaur’s opponent after producing a 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 victory over Daniel Evans of Great Britain. Evans staved off two match points before Humbert scored the winner with a fierce forehand.
