Bumrah downplays Rabada praise

Sep 17, 2019

Cape Town – Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah has responded with cool detachment to Proteas bowling star Kagiso Rabada’s praise.

Sunday’s first T20 was abandoned without a ball being bowled, the three-match T20 series will be followed by three Test matches.

Bumrah is the third highest-ranked Test bowler in the world and Rabada the second behind Australia’s Pat Cummins.

Bumrah enhanced his reputation even further with superb performances at the recently concluded World Cup in England.

Rabada said last week that ‘Bumrah is doing wonders and that can force you to lift your game’ after the Indian pace bowler took 13 wickets including a hat-trick in the two-match Test series against West Indies.

But Bumrah said he is not concerned with receiving individual praise and is only focused on contributing for the good of the team.

“I don’t look at all these things. I don’t focus on individuals. For me, the team’s success is important. I look forward to what I can do and what contribution I can make in the team’s success,” said Bumrah.

“I am looking forward to it. The preparations have already started. A lot of thought process goes behind this. A lot of preparation goes on.”

The second T20 gets underway on Wednesday at 15:30 SA time.
