Business leader to tout Bathurst in speech to National Press Club

Nov 26, 2019

CANBERRA, Australia – Business should invest in jobs in regional areas like Bathurst, not Bangalore in India, the National Press Club in Canberra will be told on Tuesday.

Business Council of Australia CEO Jennifer Westacott will make the claim in a speech she will deliver to the press club on Tuesday, after visiting regional Australia over the past two years as part of the Council’s Strong Australia pitch, according to a report in Tuesday’s Australian Financial Review.

She says Australians are “living in two different countries, and experiencing “two perspectives,” in a bid to convince peers to better understand how people live their lives outside the bigger cities like Sydney and Melbourne.

“People in our regions, and I’m including those outer metropolitan areas, feel their views are neglected and they struggle to be heard,” she will say in her speech.

“We are at a tipping point in Australia. We must make sure the economic story, the social story and the opportunity story is about all of Australia, not just some parts of it.”
