May 29, 2020

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A man is dead and a woman who tried to save him has been rushed to hospital after a workplace incident on a Central West farm.

The incident came to light around 4:40pm on Thursday afternoon when emergency services were called to a property on Thornton Road, Cathundral, 112km west of Dubbo. They had received reports a man and a woman were unconscious in a water tank storing fertiliser.

Police say they have been told a 30-year-old woman entered the tank to assist a 38-year-old man, when she collapsed soon after entering.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Trangie Hospital where she was airlifted to Orange Hospital for further treatment. She is currently reported to be in a stable condition.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Detectives attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District have notified SafeWork NSW and have commenced an investigation, ahead of a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
