Central West man facing mutliple charges after firing shotgun

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A man faced a Bathurst court on Monday after firing a shotgun at a couple on a property near Rockley, west of Oberon on Saturday.

The man is facing a string of charges after an altercation with a couple on the property late Saturday afternoon.

Police have been told a 53-year old man attended a property at Triangle Flat, near Rockley, on Saturday to pick up a vintage vehicle, which was being stored in a shed.

The man picked up the car without incident, but after realising a badge was missing, he returned to the property with his partner, a 52-year-old woman, about 4.45pm Saturday.

The pair went to another homestead on the property and spoke with the 62-year-old man living at the property, who allegedly became aggressive and scuffled with the 53-year old man, before the couple started to drive from the location.

When the woman exited the car to open a gate, the older man allegedly pointed a shotgun at her before firing a shot over her head.

The couple, who weren’t physically injured, fled the property and contacted police.

Officers from Chifley Police District commenced inquiries and the 62-year-old man attended Rockley Police Station on Sunday.

A short time later, investigators executed a crime scene warrant at the property, where they seized a single-barrel 12-guage shotgun with a discharged cartridge inside, and cannabis.

The man was arrested and transferred to Bathurst Police Station, where he was charged with using an offensive weapon, using a firearm in a manner likely toinjure persons/property, common assault, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail ahead of bhis appearance at Bathurst Local Court on Monday.
