May 16, 2021

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – Chifley Police now believe a utility destroyed by fire in Lithgow earlier this year was the target of a Molotov cocktail.

Early Sunday morning, investigators released a photo of a white sedan captured by CCTV cameras at the scene.

They also issued an appeal for information about the fire. They particularly want to speak to two men who were seen entering the backyard of the home where the ute was attacked.

“Police are re-appealing for information after a vehicle was destroyed by a suspicious fire in the state’s Central West earlier this year,” the Chifley Police statement issued early Sunday morning said.

“Shortly after 3:00am on Tuesday 30 March 2021, emergency services responded to reports of a ute on fire outside a home on Coalbrook Street, Lithgow.”

“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire,” the statement said.

“Officers attached to the Chifley Police District attended and commenced an investigation.”

“Police will allege the remains of a Molotov cocktail were found at the scene,” the statement added.

“Following inquiries, detectives wish to speak with two males who were seen to enter the backyard of the home before the fire began around 3:15am.”

“CCTV has now been released of a white sedan, travelling west on Geordie Street near the Visitor Information Centre. Detectives believe the occupants of the vehicle may be able to help with the investigation,” the Chifley Police statement said.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have mobile phone or dashcam footage, to contact Chifley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
