SPINGWOOD, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – With major activities looming for Clean Up Australia Day, locals across the Blue Mountains and Central West are being urged to sign up.

2019 Clean Up Australia Day registrations are now open, so it’s time to check out rubbish hotspots in your neighbourhood and challenge your friends and family to make 2019 the year when change starts with you.

Last year, in the Blue Mountains for example, volunteers from 18 groups removed over a tonne of rubbish from bushland and parks. The top three rubbish offenders were cigarette butts, PET bottles and glass bottles.

There are currently nine groups registered locally in the Blue Mountains, three of which are open to the public and are looking for more volunteers. These are Glenbrook Native Plant Nursery, Bowaga Avenue, Glenbrook and Springwood Cemetery.

Lithgow City Council is also encouraging groups to register their clean-up location for the collection of waste on Monday 4 March.

Registered groups who can’t take their waste to the local landfill and want it collected need to provide Council with an easily accessible single collection point by Midday Friday 1 March 2019. Information is available by phoning Lithgow Council Customer Service on 6354 9999.

Bathurst is pushing the Business Clean Up Day on Tuesday 26 February.

Volunteers have donated more than 33 million hours, at over 178,000 locations across the country, over the last 29 years. Together they have removed the equivalent of 350 thousand ute-loads of rubbish across Australia.

Anyone can get involved by joining an existing Clean Up site, or finding a local park or area that needs cleaning. Once registered, those that sign up will be sent a free Clean Up kit including bags, gloves, information and promotional materials.
