Council closes golf glub until further notice

Apr 1, 2020

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – The Lithgow Golf Course has now closed.

The council, in a statement issued Tuesday said the course would be closed until further notice.

The decision followed advice from the NSW State Government, NSW Office of Sport and Golf NSW.

Recently Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced further restrictions in relation to social gatherings and self-isolation of the elderly in an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19.

It was Golf NSW’s recommendation that all golf courses in NSW close at midnight on Monday night until further notice.

The Lithgow Council, in acknowledging the health benefits, both mental and physical that golf provides, said however, in its guidance the government had listed four reasons in which people may leave their home in the current circumstances; for work, exercise, food, and for medical reasons. Under the current restrictions, sport is considered non-essential and therefore not exempt. Action by authorities, including fines, could be imposed on people not adhering to these regulations.

The council said it would continue maintaining the course for as long as staff are able to do the work and strictly comply with the social distancing requirements.
