Danger period for fires in Midwest cities commences 1st September

Aug 21, 2018

The NSW Rural Fire Service has brought forward the Bush Fire Danger Period for Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon.

The period will now commence on 1 September 2018 in these areas.

After 1 September, all landowners and residents will require a Fire Permit, and will need to notify their immediate neighbours and the RFS a minimum 24 hours prior to commencing any burning activities.

“The early commencement of the BFDP is as a result of the dryer then normal conditions being experienced through the region, NSW RFS Superintendent Greg Sim said Monday.

“The decision was made in consolation with Senior Volunteers and the Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC). This decision was made with consideration of risk to the Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon communities from bush fires.”

“Now is the time all residents should complete a Bush Fire Survival Plan. Plans are available from their local Fire Control Centre and report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000) immediately” said Superintendent Sim.

Fire Permits are available by phoning 1300 258 737 or by attending your local Fire Control Centre.
