Elderly woman indecently assaulted in middle of night in Blayney

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A man was refused bail in the Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday after being charged with having broken into a retirement home in Blayney just before midnight on Monday night, and indecently assaulting an 85-year old woman.

It’s alleged the woman was asleep in a unit of the retirement home on Adelaide Street, Blayney, about 11.40pm on Monday night, when she was woken by someone touching her.

The women saw a man in her room committing an act of indecency and challenged him.

The man left the room and the woman escorted him out of the unit before notifying police when she saw the man looking in her bedroom window.

Officers from Chifley Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 41-year-old man at a Cowra home on Tuesday.

He was taken to Cowra Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, sexually touching another person without consent, break and enter house and steal, receive property – theft, possess prohibited drug, and possess unregistered firearm.

The charges include another break and enter at a commercial property in Blayney the same night.

In Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday, after being refused bail, the man was ordered to appear before the same court again on Monday 8 April 2019.
