Four-week old baby allegedly assaulted by 25-year old man

PARRAMATTA, NSW, Australia – A 25-year old man appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday charged with assaulting a four-week old baby.

The baby is in critical but stable condition at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she is being treated for serious brain, neck and rib injuries.

The drama began last Thursday when the baby was brought to the Liverpool Hospital suffering seizures.

Police were notified because of the nature and extent of the baby girl’s injuries.

Following an investigation, Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad on Tuesday arrested the man allegedly responsible for the assault of the baby at a home in Sydney’ south-west.

He was refused bail and was ordered to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
