Mar 13, 2021

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – Seven boys, two aged just 10, have been arrested in the New South Wales Central West following the theft of $36,000 worth of bicycles and scooters.

The 7 are suspected to have been involved in the robbery at a business on Lord’s Place at Orange last weekend.

Police believe the gang broke into the business on two occasions, once on Saturday and once on Sunday.

Ten bicycles and 7 scooters that were stolen have been recovered. Additional bicycles and scooters remain outstanding.

Following inquiries, police arrested four boys, one aged 18, and the other 3 aged between ten and 12 at Glenroi and Orange Police Stations between Sunday and Thursday.

The 18-year-old was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Orange Local Court on Monday 19 April 2021.

The three boys were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act, with one referred to NSW Youth Justice.

Following further inquiries, police arrested two boys aged 10 and sixteen at Glenroi on Tuesday.

The pair were taken to Orange Police Station, where the 10-year-old boy was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act, and the 16-year-old boy was released pending further inquiries.

About 1:00pm Thursday, a 15-year-old boy was arrested at Clifton Grove and taken to Orange Police Station. He was referred to NSW Youth Justice.

Investigations, police say, are continuing.

“Officers attached to Central West Police District are actively engaged in prevention and disruption programs with various stakeholders in order to ensure young offenders are diverted from the criminal justice system,” Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Grassick, Central West Police District Crime Manager said Friday.

“Police will continue to manage youth crime with an emphasis on diversion.”
