High Tea at Lithgow TAFE a big success

Jun 3, 2019

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – High tea has been taken to a new level at Lithgow TAFE thanks to the culinary skills of a group of students enrolled in an employability skills training course.

The course is run in partnership with the Youth Jobs PaTH (Prepare – Trial – Hire) of which a component involves industry experience such as organising and hosting an event to showcase their skills and knowledge.

Bathurst MP Paul Toole was invited to last week’s function along with about 15 other local community leaders and was full of praise for the students’ efforts in the kitchen.

“They were great hosts and better still, the tasty treats served to guests were first class and beautifully presented,” he said Sunday.

Held in the dining room right next door to the commercial kitchen at TAFE Lithgow, the High Tea included sweet and savoury offerings on a tiered cake plate.

Nicola Connon from Lithgow TAFE said PATH is more than a classroom-based experience.

“This is because it includes industry exposure and tangible vocational experience,” she said Sunday.

“The students have worked with Krysten Hutchison, our commercial cookery teacher, to plan and produce this High Tea which proved to be a great success.”
