Aug 30, 2019

PORTLAND, Central West, NSW, Australia – A raid at a home in Portland has resulted in the discovery of an elaborate hydroponic cannabis system.

A man has been arrested and charged before appearing in Lithgow Local Court on Friday.

The hydroponic house in the heart of state’s Central Tablelands is somewhat off a shock.

The search of the Wolgan Street, Portland home took place just after 9:00am on Thursday morning. Officers attached to Chifley Police District, with the assistance of Chifley Target Action Group and Western Region highway patrol, executed the search warrant.

The warrant had been obtained following an investigation into the cultivation of prohibited plants at the location.

It is alleged police located the elaborate hydroponic cannabis system spread over seven rooms of the house.

The hydroponics system was dismantled and a total of 191 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $955,000 were removed.

A Bass Hill man, aged 30, was arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station where he was charged.

He was refused bail ahead of his appearance at Lithgow Local Court today on Friday.

Police say investigations are continuing.
