Immediate start for Mt Lambie 1.7km stretch of Great Western Highway

May 18, 2019

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – Work will commence this Monday to upgrade a 1.7 kilometre stretch of the Great Western Highway at Mount Lambie, which is 14 kilometres northwest of Lithgow, and is part of the City of Lithgow Local Government Area.

The upgrade which will cost $1.6 million will benefit all road users including freight transporters, emergency services, local families and general travellers including tourists.

“We know how many people use the Great Western Highway to get from point A to point B, and we want to make sure all road users get home safe to their families,” Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said Friday.

“From Monday work will commence to remove the westbound overtaking lane at Mount Lambie to allow for the installation of a flexible centre barrier, widen the road shoulders and add a flexible barrier on the northbound side.”

“The project is being funded under the NSW Safer Roads Program after the area was identified as a potential hot spot for crashes,” Toole said.

The local member suggested drivers should allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of traffic control and all signs, including reduced speed limits.

“We know people just want to get home, however it is important motorists allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and pay attention to reduced speed limits,” he said.

“By working together, we can make our roads safer.”

While the upgrade will commence on Monday, work will be carried out on weekdays only (between 7:00am and 6:00pm), until 21 June, weather permitting.

Temporary traffic changes including lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times.
