Kyrgios’ odds of playing in French Open: ‘Slim to none’

Aug 7, 2020

Australia’s Nick Kyrgios says the chances of him playing in the French Open are “slim to none.”

Kyrgios, who announced his withdrawal from the U.S. Open on Sunday, told Australian television he plans to sit out until it is safer to return to the ATP Tour amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s a very slim chance I’ll play in Europe. Almost slim to none, to be honest,” the 25-year-old told Channel Nine.

The French Open is scheduled for Sept. 27-Oct. 11 at Roland Garros in Paris.

Kyrgios’ best finish at the clay-court Grand Slam was reaching the third round in 2015 and 2016.

“I’m going to use this (time) to stay home, train, be with my family, be with my friends and I’m just going to act responsibly, and wait till I think there’s better circumstances to play,” he said.

Kyrgios currently ranks No. 40 in the world. He has six career singles titles on the ATP Tour, including two in 2019, but is still looking for his first Grand Slam trophy.
