Lithgow and Bathurst prison visitors subjected to screenings

LITHGOW / BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – North West Police Transport Command and Bathurst Target Action Group screened visitors to the Bathurst and Lithgow correctional centres on the weekend.

The screenings included the searching of visitors’ vehicles, and physical searches.

As a result of the operation four people have been arrested and charged, mostly however due to historical incidents.

The operation began on Saturday and concluded on Sunday, targeting contraband entering the Bathurst and Lithgow correctional facilities.

A 21-year-old man will now face the Bathurst Local Court on Monday 25 February 2019 charged with possessing a prohibited drug, being in possession of a knife and for handling explosive without a licence.

A 19-year-old woman was charged with outstanding matters including menacing driving, negligent driving, malicious damage and stalk/intimidate. She was granted conditional bail to appear in Orange Local Court on Tuesday 15 January 2019.

Two other women were issued Court Attendance Notices for possessing a prohibited drug and are due to appear in Bathurst Local Court on Monday 25 February 2019.

In addition, proactive patrols of Lithgow and Bathurst were also conducted, with one man charged in relation to two outstanding arrest warrants and issued a Court Attendance Notice. He is due to appear in Lithgow Local Court on Thursday 21 February 2019.

Across the two days, a total of 185 visitors were screened, seventy eight vehicles  were searched, and 10 people were subjected to physical searches.
