Man charged with running red light after 3-vehicle collision

WINDSOR, Western Sydney, NSW, Australia – A truck driver has been ordered to appear at Windsor Local Court later this month to face charges of dangerous driving, negligent driving and not stopping at a red light.

The series of charges, which have the added mention of ‘grievous bodily harm,’ follow a collision between the man’s truck and two cars which occurred when he ran the red light on Friday at Windsor.

Officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, in which the driver and passenger of a Kia sedan, a 47-year-old man and a 97-year-old woman, were airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 97-year-old woman’s condition is now critical.

Another passenger in the Kia, a 43-year-old woman, was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of a Toyota Yaris sedan, a 48-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 65-year-old man, were not injured.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Hawkesbury Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then arrested and taken to Windsor Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, cause bodily harm by misconduct, and not stop at stop line at red light.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Windsor Local Court on Thursday 25 October 2018.
