Man in Dubbo allegedly assaults woman, is pursued by police on foot

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A man was scheduled to appear in a Central West court on Monday, over a domestic vioence episode in the state’s Central West on Saturday, after which he was involved in a police pursuit on foot.

The man, 25, has been charged with domestic violence related offences and resisting police in the New South Wales’ Orana region.

Just after 12:30am Saturday, officers from Orana Mid Western Police District were called to a house on Birch Avenue, Dubbo, after reports a man allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic-related incident.

The man fled the scene on foot and was arrested by police following a short foot pursuit. During the pursuit, the man ran through a metal gate, causing it to strike an officer.

A sergeant was treated for lacerations to his hand.

The 25-year-old man was taken to Dubbo Police Station, before being taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury.

Upon release, he was taken back to the station and charged with resisting arrest, destruction of property, possessing a prohibited drug, stalking and intimagting with the inntetion of causing fear of physical harm (domestic), and common assault.

He was refused bail and appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Saturday, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Monday..
