Aug 18, 2018

A young man bushwalking in the Blue Mountains who was reported missing on Thursday afternoon has been located.

David Lustina, 27, set out on a bushwalk around 10am on Thursday. He was alone and was starting out from the Ruined Castle rock formation.

Approaching midnight he had not returned to where he was staying in Katoomba, and police were notified.

A preliminary search began in the early hours of Friday morning and that search was expanded at daybreak.

Officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command, Police Rescue, PolAir, and SES all took part in the search.

David, a citizen of the Czech Republic, was believed to have limited cold weather clothing and supplies.

Police held concerns for his welfare due to cold weather overnight.

Fortunately PolAir located David around 10 to 2 on Friday afternoon and he was winched to safety.
