Man with head injuries winched to safety from Mt Piddington

MT VICTORIA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – A man injured while rock climbing in the Blue Mountains has been rescued by emergency services.

The first responders were called to Hourn Point at Mt Piddington, near Mt Victoria on Saturday morning, after the rock climber fell from below the point and landed on a small ledge, striking his head in the process.

Fellow climbers made a call to 000, and in short time the Toll Ambulance helicopter was on the scene with paramedics on board. The paramedics were lowered to the ledge where they treated the man, who is 52 years old. They lowered the climber to the base of the mountain.

With the assistance of fellow climbers, the man was carried a short distance to a suitable location and winched out.

He was flown to hospital where he is being treated for head injuries.

Blue Mountains Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance and the Toll Ambulance Rescue were all involved in the rescue, along with the Rural Fire Service who transported equipment used in the operation in their four-wheel drive vehicles.
