Man with tomahawk axe threatens a second man in Dubbo

DUBBO, Central West, NSW, Australia – A 21-year old man appeared in a Central West court on Monday after he and others were involved in a series of events on the weekend, including threatening someone with a samurai sword, and in another incident, threatening someone with a tomahawk axe.

The drama began shortly after 12.30am Saturday when a 34-year-old man and two passengers arrived at a home at Brocklehurst, 15km north of Dubbo.

The man was approached by a 21-year-old man in the driveway when and a fight broke out.

A second man, aged 28, allegedly removed the keys from the man’s ignition before they and one of the victim’s passengers entered the house.

The two men, aged 21 and 28, returned a short time later wielding a samurai sword and demanded money from the man and his remaining passenger.

It is alleged the 34-year-old was threatened with a tomahawk axe as he attempted to return to the driver’s seat of his car.

The 21-year-old man and his two accomplices left in the stolen vehicle, and a second vehicle which had arrived during the altercation.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District were notified of the incident and located the man’s car on Birch Avenue at Dubbo a short time later.

About 6.45pm Sunday, police engaged in a pursuit with a Holden Commodore sedan in east Dubbo along Murrayfield Drive.

Police allege the 21-year-old man involved in the incident ran from the vehicle and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

The man was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and aggravated assault with intent to rob.

He was refused bail ahead of his appearance at Dubbo Local Court on Monday.

Investigations into the outstanding offenders continue.
