Mar 6, 2019

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – A senior executive at NSW Central West broadcasting stations 2LT and Move FM on Wednesday marked fifty years of service to the broadcasting industry and to the two local stations.

Barbara Orr, commonly known as Barb, joined the station in 1969 as a record library assistant and worked herself up to being Office Manager, a role she has held for the past thirty years.

Barb (pictured right) who was a very young teenager when she started has now worked at 2LT for almosty two thirds of the life of the station, which began broadcasting in 1939.

When she commenced she was working at the original offices and studios at Bowenfells on the Great Western Highway.

Barb has now worked at the current offices and studios complex in Main Street, Lithgow since they were purpose-built in 1974.

Barb was a major part of the broadcast operations when Move FM was launched in August 1997, which at that time was named Kiss FM.

At the 75th anniversary of the station in 2014, which saw past managers, announcers, engineering and office staff descend on Lithgow from all over Australia, almost all of them knew, and had worked with Barb.

A spokesman for Midwest Radio Network, the current licensee of the stations, and the original licensee in 1939, said Wednesday, “Barb is one of our greatest assets.”

“She has given a lifetime of service to the community through her association with radio, and we’re looking forward to seeing her see out the next fifty years.”
