Mudgee police snare man on drugs and speeding 60km/h over limit

MUDGEE, Central West, NSW, Australia – It was a triple whammy for a man stopped by police near Mudgee for speeding 60 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.

When the man was stopped his car was searched and police allegedly found prohibited drugs. He also returned a positive breath test.

The man was caught around 4:40pm on Wednesday when he was seen driving at 160km/h on the Castlereagh Highway. 

That section of the Castlereagh Highway has a speed limit of 100km/h.

The driver, a 43-year-old Dubbo man, underwent random breath and drug testing. The oral fluid sample returned a positive indication for the presence of a prohibited drug. He was suspended from driving for 24 hours. Police will await laboratory testing results from a second sample before determining further legal action in relation to the outcome of the random drug test. 

Inquiries at the scene prompted police to search the man and his vehicle. It will be alleged police found a quantity of cannabis and methylamphetamines. 

The 43-year-old was arrested and charged with driving at a speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and possessing and supplying a prohibited drug 

He was conditionally bailed to appear at Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 3 July 2019. His driver’s license was also suspended.
