Name yet to be released of man killed by XPT in Central West

Jul 19, 2018

Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a man in Bathurst on Wednesday morning.

The man, whose name has not been released, was struck by the XPT at the Lloyds Road crossing, just off the Vale Road, approximately 2 kilometres from Bathurst, around 11:00am on Wednesday.

Police and paramedics were quickly on the scene, however there was little they could do. The man had been killed instantly.

Investigators have interviewed witnesses, mostly drivers and occupants of cars that had been waiting at the crossing for the high speed train to pass.

Lloyds Road was closed for a period on Wednesday following the collision. The XPT was also held up, and remained stationery at the crossing, while police carried out their investigation.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The XPT (express passenger train), in service since 1982, has an aerodynamic design and travels between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Dubbo, Grafton and Casino.
