Normal water supplies to Portland resumed, says council

May 4, 2019

PORTLAND, Central West, NSW, Australia – The Lithgow City Council on Friday issued a statement advising people living in Portland that water pressure issues which had emerged over the past week have now been addressed, and water pressure levels should be back to normal.

Last Saturday, 27 April 2019, the failure of a pressure reducing valve in Portland resulted in a series of burst water mains due to the substantial increase in pressure.

To overcome the issue Council reconfigured the network to reduce further damage, which resulted in reduced water pressure for some residents of Portland.

Repair works were carried out on Thursday to replace the pressure reducing valve that had failed.

The Council statement said it was now advising residents who were experiencing low pressure they should now have pressures similar to those they had before the failure of the valve.

The statement added an apology for the inconvenience and and thanked Portland residents for their patience with the matter.
