NSW Fire and Rescue crews free trapped man in Katoomba

KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – Emergency services were called to free an elderely man who had become trapped between the car he was driving and a brick wall on Wednesday morning.

The man, 75, was  eventually freed and taken to Westmead Hospital by helicopter.

It is understood the man was reversing his car into a shed when his body came into contact with the brick wall, causing him to become trapped.

The CareFlight rapid response helicopter was called for to fly to Katoomba just after 9.30am. On arrival it landed at Katoomba showground.

Meantime NSW Fire and Rescue crews worked carefully to free the man who remained trapped for about 25 minutes.

NSW Ambulance provided initial treatment to him before conveying him to the CareFlight helicopter.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic continued treatment on the man who suffered multiple injuries to his upper and lower body, while in flight.

He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.
