Police hunting group of masked men on rampage in Central West

Jan 5, 2021

NSW CENTRAL WEST, Australia – A major city in the New South Wales Central West is on alert after a gang of masked men staged two home invasions in the past 24 hours.

In both cases, the men forced their way into homes where people were sleeping in the early hours of the morning.

In both cases, masked men demanded money and stole cars.

Police have issued a public appeal for information about the men.

“Police have been told a group of unknown males armed with a weapon knocked on the door of a home in Cox Avenue, Orange, about 12.30am today (Tuesday 5 January 2021), and forced entry after a woman opened the door,” a statement issued by police late on Tuesday said.

“The group demanded money and keys to a silver/grey Holden Commodore car parked out the front of the home, before fleeing the area in the car. During the incident, the car sustained damage to the front windscreen.”

“The woman sustained a minor injury during the altercation.”

“Between 11:00pm yesterday (Monday 4 January 2021) and 6:00am today, a group of males forced entry into a home on Seymour Street, Orange, while the occupants were asleep,” the statement said.

“The group allegedly ransacked the home, before attempting to flee the location in a car parked in the driveway.”

“The vehicle was reversed down the driveway before it crashed into a retaining wall, and the group fled the scene on foot.”

“The occupants were uninjured.”

Officers attached to Central West Police District who have commenced an investigation into both incidents, are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam vision from the area to contact Orange Police Station or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

The men were last seen wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered with masks.

Police will allege the group may have travelled in the vehicle through Cowra and Boorowa, heading towards Canberra.

Inquiries say they are continuing.
