Substantial upgrade of footpaths in Katoomba to commence this week

Feb 21, 2021

KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – Upgrades of footpaths in one of the main Blue Mountains townships will get underway this week.

The works in the Katoomba Town Centre footpaths are being funded with $870,000 from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The upgrade of footpaths follows similar works delivered at Bathurst Road to the Carrington Hotel in 2012, and near the post office and Pioneer Place in 2014.

The new project will see delivery of a new footpath, kerb and gutters from the southern side of the pedestrian crossing on Gang Gang Street, Katoomba, continuing down the eastern side of Katoomba Street to the Council car park (next door to St Canice’s Primary School).

Tree plantings will remain and the Blue Mountains City Council says it will refurbish any impacted street furniture.

This upgrade will commence on Thursday of this week and and continue until completion in May of this year.

The work take place in three stages:
Stage 1: Theo Poulos to Katoomba Wines – Thurs 25/02/21 to Fri 26/03/21
Stage 2: Omnia to Specsavers – Mon 22/03/21 Sat 24/04/21
Stage 3: National Bank to Council Car Park – Mon 26/04/21 Fri 21/05/21

All dates are weather dependent.

Works will occur during the day, 7am-6pm Monday to Friday (and if necessary, 7am-3pm Saturday). Work on the Telstra pits will occur during the night, council says, to ensure minimum disruption to business and residents.
