Teenagers front court on armed robbery and car theft charges

CENTRAL WEST/BLUE MOUNTAINS, NSW, Australia – Two boys, aged 16 and 17, who allegedly broke into a home in the Central West on Sunday night, robbed and assaulted the owner and then fled in his Ford Focus car, which they abandoned in the Blue Mountains the following day, appeared in children’s court on Tuesday.

The pair had been arrested on Monday and taken to Orange Police Station where they were charged with a number of offences.

“Police allege about 9.10pm on Sunday night, two teenagers forced entry into a home in Margaret Street, Orange, one was allegedly armed with a knife,” a New South Wales Police statement issued on Tuesday said.

“The teenagers allegedly pushed the man to the ground before they threatened and assaulted him, demanding keys to his car and his wallet, before fleeing the location in a Ford Focus.”

“Officers from Central West Police District attended, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the NSW Police statement said.

“The Ford Focus was recovered in Katoomba at 4:00pm on Monday.”

“Following inquiries, officers arrested two teenagers aged 16 and 17 yesterday (Monday 11 May 2020) and they were taken to Orange Police Station,” the statement said.

Both teenagers were bail refused ahead of their appearance at children’s court on Tuesday.
