Work commences on new Oberon-Goulburn road bridge

Mar 14, 2019

OBERON, Central West, NSW, Australia – Oberon Council staff commenced excavation works for the new two-lane concrete bridge foundations this week.

The original Abercrombie River Bridge, which is being replaced, was built in the 1950s.

Due to the very dry conditions the river has stopped flowing with the surface water having dried up allowing Council to excavate approx. 1.5 metres below river bed depth in order to place Basalt rocks as a new subsurface foundation for the new concrete culvert bridge base.

Bridge construction works are expected to continue over the next four week period into early April, allowing the new road approach works then to commence with an anticipated completion by late April.

Presently there are no major disruptions to the flow of traffic. However this will change mid-April when the new road works commence and the commissioning of the new bridge structure is anticipated.

The construction of the new bridge and the improvments to the road between Oberon and Goulburn overall will cost $1.5 million. The funding is being provided jointly by the Federal Government, the NSW Government and the Upper Lachlan Shire Council, with work carried out by Oberon Council.
