WSROC links up with Lithgow

Aug 1, 2018

The Lithgow Council is to join the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC).

The move is seen as a benefit to the WSROC membership and the Lithgow community.

“Following discussions between executive management of the two organisations, it became clear that there would be significant benefits from working together,” WSROC CEO Charles Casuscelli said.

“Lithgow is a progressive, eastward-looking council that sees significant opportunity in aligning itself with Greater Western Sydney.”

“As the gateway to New South Wale’s Central West, Lithgow is well placed to support the growth of Western Sydney, and in particular the future Parklands City.”

“Both Lithgow and Western Sydney will benefit from improving trans-Blue Mountains transport links, industry and economic connections. Linking Western Sydney Airport to the agricultural, manufacturing and tourism markets of central NSW,” he said.

“By working with Lithgow, WSROC seeks to maximise opportunities for the businesses and communities of Western Sydney; opportunities which will benefit everyone.”

“There is little doubt that the growth of Western Sydney over the next 20 years, and in particular, the new Western Sydney Airport, will create significant opportunities for communities on both sides of the Blue Mountains, and we very much look forward in working with Lithgow Council to harness these,” Mr Casuscelli added.

The WSROC region estimated Resident Population for 2017 is 1,608,757.

Formed in 1973, the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) is a membership organisation that represents eight local councils in the Greater Western Sydney region.

WSROC’s members include: Blacktown City Council, Blue Mountains City Council, Cumberland Council, Fairfield City Council, Hawkesbury City Council, Liverpool City Council and the City of Parramatta.

WSROC’s primary role is to represent the councils and communities of Western Sydney, as well as developing resource-sharing and other co-operative projects between member councils. WSROC also manages a number of projects, which are either funded jointly by its members or from external sources.

WSROC brings a collective voice to a number of issues which include transport, employment, regional planning, arts, health and sustainability.
