1 dead after hijacked taxi is involved in head-on collision

LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – A taxi was allegedly hijacked in Lithgow on Tuesday night and twenty minutes later the driver of the allegedly stolen taxi was dead.

The police are investigating two separate incidents in relation to the drama.

The first occurred around 9:40pm on Tuesday night when a taxi was hijacked in Lithgow. The man who stole the taxi was allegedly wielding a knife.

Then around 10pm Tuesday night the allegedly hijacked taxi collided with a truck on the Bells Line of Road, near the intersection with Bilpin School Road at Bilpin.

When police arrived at the scene the driver of the taxi was already dead.

His name has not been released.

Bells Line of Road was closed in both directions for several hours following the crash.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
