3 of four men arrested over crime spree in Bathurst charged

BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – Police on Thursday released more details concerning a crime spree in Bathurst that ended after several hours on Wednesday morning.

Four men have been arrested in the aftermath, some of the arrests involving violent clashes with police. All four were taken to Lithgow Police Station.

The spree began at 10.15pm Tuesday night when a 35-year-old man was allegedly stabbed, and his car stolen, during an aggravated break, enter and steal in Macquarie Street, West Bathurst. The man suffered two stab wounds to the leg and was taken to Bathurst Health Service in a stable condition.

Then at 12:20am on Wednesday morning a 52-year-old man who was asleep in his car in Stephens Lane was allegedly assaulted and robbed. He was treated at the scene by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics

Just before 1:00am Wednesday, the car that was stolen less than 3 hours earlier, during the 10:15pm attack on Tuesday night, was destroyed by fire in Limekilns Road, Forest Grove.

Then at 2:30am on Wednesday morning a samurai sword was thrown through the passenger side window of a vehicle travelling along Lambert Street, Bathurst. The car was damaged but there were no injuries

About 3:20am Wednesday, a motorcycle was stolen during an aggravated break and enter in Moresby Way, West Bathurst. Shortly before 6:00am it will be alleged the men returned to the premises where they were confronted by an occupant who was assaulted by the men before leaving the scene prior to the police arriving.

On Thursday officers from Chifley Police District revealed they were conducting inquiries in Moresby Way, about 6.30am on Wednesday, when the four men again returned to the location. One of the men commenced to smash a CCTV camera at the location with a large paling stake. Police attempted to arrest the 24-year-old man when he threw the paling stake at the officers narrowly missing them. The man then fled in a vehicle with the other men.

About 7.45am Wednesday police attended an address in Bannerman Crescent, Kelso, and arrested the 24-year-old man. During the arrest it is alleged he assaulted, resisted and threatened officers. Located in his possession was a knife and 0.48 grams of methylampetamine.

Upon sighting police, a 25-year-old man attempted to avoid police by jumping over a fence but was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Upon being taken into custody the man resisted arrest before he was handcuffed.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident.

A fourth man was arrested at West Bathurst, shortly before 1pm.

Three of the four men, one, aged 24, of no fixed address, another, a 27-year old man from Parkes, and a third, a 32-year old man from Bathurst have since been charged by Chifley Police Officers at Lithgow.
