Jul 20, 2020

DUBAI, UAE – There have been multiple casualties in a spectacular crash involving a bus and a lorry on a busy Dubai freeway.

Four people were killed and 11 others injured, some seriously, in a collision between a workers transport bus, carrying labourers, and a lorry on Emirates Road.

The collision occurred on Saturday night when the lorry broke down on the third lane of Emirates Road near Al Nahda bridge, and the driver tried to pull it over when the bus rammed into it.

Emirates Road is a major arterial highway in the UAE connecting the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. The road is otherwise known as E311, or its official name since 2013, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

According to Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, the Command and Control room at the General Department of Operations, the report of a crash was received at 7:10 PM on Saturday night.

“The crash led to the death of four people and the injury of eleven. One was severely injured, two suffered moderate injuries, and eight others were lightly wounded,” he said Sunday.

Brig Al Mazrouei added that a team of traffic experts was immediately dispatched to secure the accident site, collect evidence and probe the cause of the incident.

“Traffic police patrols rushed to the scene and facilitated the transfer of the injured to Rashid Hospital for necessary treatment,” Brig Al Mazrouei said.
