Faulty taillights force Ford to recall Maverick pickups in US

04 May 2024

DEARBORN, Michigan: Ford is recalling nearly 243,000 Maverick small pickup trucks in the U.S. due to faulty taillights that may not illuminate.

Ford said that a computer can falsely detect too much current on one or both tail lamps, causing them to stay dark while the trucks are on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain pickups from model years 2022 to 2024.

The U.S. carmaker said it has not received any reports of related crashes or injuries, and the headlights, turn signals, and brake lights in affected models will still work.

This week, documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website showed that dealers will update software to solve the issue for free.

Notification letters will be mailed from May 20.
