Car in India collides with 2 trucks leaving ten family members dead

Dec 31, 2018

KUTCH, Gujarat, India – At least ten people all from one family have been killed in a freak traffic incident in Kutch District, the largest district in India, located in the north-west of the country.

All 10 people were travelling in one car which was crushed when it collided with a truck and was then hit from behind by another truck. There were others in the car, an SUV, who were taken to hospital. Officials said the death toll could rise.

The double-collision occurred between Gandhidham and Bhachau in Kutch, which has a population of just over two million, on Sunday morning.

“Their vehicle got crushed between two trucks in a road accident on Bhachau-Kandla Highway,” a local police spokesperson said in an official statement.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, in a statement, said he had asked the District Collector to express his condolences and sympathy to the family members of those killed.

An investigation has been ordered into the incident.

Ironically, ten people were killed in another freak incident on Kutch’s roads just 8 months earlier. In another touch of irony, that collision also took place on a Sunday.

That incident involved a collision between a tractor transporting 25 people all from one family to a wedding, and a bus near Shikra village. It occurred on Sunday 15 April 2018.
