Chinese Gay Dating App Blued Stops Registrations Due to HIV Report

Jan 7, 2019

BEIJING, China – The well known Chinese LGBT dating app Blued has reported that it shut down its registration on Sunday due to various reports citing the rise of juvenile HIV cases. The reports have cited that underage users have caught HIV after using the app to set up dates with people in the community.

Caixin Global reported on Saturday that underaged members of the LGBT community are heavy users of the dating app. A lot of teens engage in unprotected sex with other members of the dating app. This caused the rise in juvenile HIV cases, stated Caixin.

Following the report by Caixin, Blued made a statement vowing to perform an investigation on fake accounts wherein minors pretend to be adults to get dates. With that, they stopped registration of new members while conducting the investigation.

Blued also stated in China’s Weibo platform that they have already enabled an AI to take out pornographic material from the app.
