QUITO, Ecuador – In what became the second highway tragedy in less than three days in Ecuador, a bus rammed into another vehicle at high speed on a highway near the country’s capital of Quito.

Ecuadorean authorities said that the incident took place in an area on a highway called as the dead man’s curve.

The incident on Tuesday took place at about 3 am, and involved a Colombian-registered bus that had been traveling to Quito.

Nearing the curve at very high speech, the bus is said to have crashing into a smaller vehicle and overturned on the highway.

Authorities in the country have said that at least 24 people were killed and 19 others were injured in the incident.

The head of Ecuador’s transit police, Col. Wilson Pavon told reporters that the majority of the passengers aboard were Colombians, but that Venezuelans were also among the dead.

Pavon added that two minors traveling in the smaller vehicle were also killed.

First responders and ambulances that rushed to the crash site found the bus lying on its side, with houses adjacent to the highway suffering heavy damages.

The crash site was strewn with metal debris from the bus that had suffered heavy damages.

The incident caused alarm since it took place merely three days after 12 people were killed and 30 others were injured in another bus crash on Sunday.

The bus had been carrying Ecuadorean soccer team, Barcelona SC fans and had been returning from a game when it overturned on a highway.

According to some reports, the bus had been carrying members of the Sur Oscura fan club that accompanies Barcelona to all its away games.

Some witnesses said that the crash occurred when the bus was trying to overtake other vehicles on the highway and overturned.

Investigations have been launched into both the incidents.
