Driver crashes into White House complex security barrier, dies
May 9, 2024WASHINGTON, D.C.: Over the weekend, police said that a male driver died after a vehicle crashed into an outer perimeter gate of the White House complex.
Local police said that the incident was being investigated as a traffic crash.
The Secret Service said in a statement that President Joe Biden was spending the weekend in Delaware and that the White House was not threatened.
The unidentified driver was found dead in the vehicle following the crash shortly before 10:30 p.m., the statement added.
The vehicle crashed into a security barrier at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and police were called to the scene at 10:46 p.m., said the Metropolitan Police Department.
One adult male was pronounced dead from the crash, the department added.
The Secret Service said security protocols were put in place and that there was no threat to the White House.
The Secret Service and police are continuing to investigate.
