AUCKLAND, New Zealand – A major brawl involving around 100 high school students has taken place in Auckland, New Zealand’s biggest city.
Police were called in after the brawl broke out at Manurewa, a southern Auckland suburb. That was about 3 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon.
It is understood the fighting was between students at the Manurewa High School and James Cook High Schools.
When police arrived they managed to disperse the students and no charges were laid, a spokeswoman for New Zealand Police said. There were no reports of injuries.
“Any student who has been involved in acts of violence will face appropriate disciplinary action at school as well as the appropriate police action,” Manurewa High School principal Pete Jones said late Wednesday.
“I would ask any of our whaanau to talk to their rangatahi and share with us any information as well as promoting the message that violence is never OK and has no place in our community,” he said.
Manurewa High School is the largest multicultural school in New Zealand, with 2,000 students from around fifty countries. It made headlines in September four years ago when girls form the school were involved in a vicious brawl.
Shocking footage of Manurewa High School girls stomping and punching each other, while police were trying to break it up, went viral on social media.
