The two teenage youths riding the bikes, both aged nineteen, were seriously injured. Authorities said there were a significant number of riders in the immediate area at the time of the collision.

One of the injured boys, from Guildford, suffered a compound fracture of the lower leg. He was treated by Lithgow Ambulance Paramedics before being driven 1 kilometre from the scene to the Careflight 4 helicopter, which had landed on a trail. He was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The second rider, from Edmonson Park, suffered a wrist injury, and following initial treatment was taken by ambulance to the Lithgow District Hospital. He was in a stable condition upon arrival.

Separately, two hours earlier, just before 9:00am Sunday morning, another teenager was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the state’s north.

A Kawasaki motorcycle was found crashed by a member of the public on Sandilands Street, Mallanganee, about 40km west of Casino. Officers from Richmond Police District attended and found the body of the rider, a 16-year-old boy. The crash is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The third incident involved a collision between a motorcycle and a Mazda utility on the Snowy Mountains Highway, Kiandra, about 90km northwest of Cooma on Saturday afternoon.

The collision occurred about 12.40pm Saturday. Police say the motorcycle was travelling south, while the Mazda utility was travelling north, when the two vehicles collided.

The motorcycle rider, a 57-year-old man, was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

The Mazda driver, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to Cooma Hospital for mandatory testing.

Twenty-nine motorcyclists have now been killed on New South Wales Roads since 1 January this year, 50 percent more than at the same time last year (18).
