NEW YORK CITY, New York: A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage disrupted access to dozens of popular online platforms and corporate systems worldwide, including Zoom, Roblox, Snapchat, Fortnite, Robinhood, and even the McDonald’s app, according to outage-tracking site DownDetector.
AWS, Amazon’s massive cloud computing division that powers much of the internet, said services in its eastern U.S. region were affected. Engineers were “actively investigating the root cause,” the company said on its service-status website.
The disruption rippled across governments, universities, and corporations that rely on AWS to host applications and run data operations, including news organizations.
AWS did not specify how many customers were impacted or provide a timeline for restoration, but the outage quickly drew attention online as users worldwide reported slow or unavailable services.
Amazon Web Services underpins some of the world’s largest digital businesses and public systems. Even brief interruptions often have wide-ranging effects, underscoring the company’s central role in global internet infrastructure.
