Harry and Meghan announce birth of son at sunrise on Monday

LONDON, UK – Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are the proud parents of a 7lbs 3oz (3.2kg) baby boy, born on Monday.

A framed announcement of the birth was erected on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, where it remained through the day (until 8:00pm), a tradition that dates back centuries. The notice read: "The Queen and the Royal Family are delighted at the news that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526am today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.

The newborn baby arrived into the world at 5:26am, almost exactly at sunrise.

A statement from the Palace was issued shortly after the formal notice was posted in the forecourt.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs this morning," the statement said.

"The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz."

"The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth," the statement said.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news."

 "Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well."

"The duchess's mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage," the Buckingham Palace statement added.

Prince Harry later told press reporters:  "It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined." He said he and Meghan were "absolutely thrilled," and that his wife and baby were doing "incredibly well."

He also confirmed tthe Royal couple had yet to agree on a name.
