Home invasions becoming more frequent in Central West

Sep 24, 2019

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A home invasion in the NSW Central West has left an elderly man shaken after he was threatened and robbed.

The attack took place around 5:30pm on Sunday. The elderly man was returning to his home on Warrendine Street at Orange when he was confronted by an unknown man in his living room.

The man threatened the elderly man and demanded his wallet.

The man then left the home but returned, demanding the old man’s car keys.

The alleged attacker then took off again with the car keys which were later found on the front lawn.

Officers attached to Central West Police District attended the home and established a crime scene.

A quantity of jewellery of particular sentimental value was reported stolen, along with a small amount of cash.

Police wish to speak with a man described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, a large build, 175cm, olive complexion, dark hair who was last seen wearing a dark grey/ blue baseball cap, dark top and dark trousers.

The attack comes just over a week after a similar invasion of a home in Condobolin where a 92-year-old woman awoke to find a man in her bedroom.

As the man approached the woman in her bed, she pushed her emergency alert pendent that immediately notified a ‘back-to-base’ contact, who in turn notified her neighbour.

The elderly woman then fought off the man and he fled the home.

That alleged attacker has been described as being aged in his 20s, with a thin build and dark coloured skin. At the time of the incident he too was wearing a baseball cap.

A major search to locate both men is underway.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Orange Police Station: 6363 6399, Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
