Joe Biden all but wraps up Democratic nomination

Apr 9, 2020

BURLINGTON, Vermont – Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has almost certainly wrapped up his party’s nomination, following the withdrawal of Bernie Sanders from the race on Wednesday.

In a surprise move, Sanders, 78, said he was suspending his campaign as the path to victory was almost impossible. Former Vice President Joe Biden, 77, will almost certainly contest the November 3 election against Republican President Donald Trump, 73.

“The path toward victory is virtually impossible,” Sanders said in a live-streamed address to supporters from his hometown in Burlington, Vermont.

“I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful. And so today, I am announcing the suspension of my campaign.”

President Trump took to Twitter blaming the DNC for Sanders’ withdrawal, the circumstances of which he likened to the perceived treatment of Sanders by the Democratic Party’s head office in the2016 campaign.

“This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco. The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!,” Trump said in a tweet.
