Dec 25, 2020

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A 27-year old man was arrested and detained on Christmas Eve, ahead of a court appearance in a Central West court on Christmas Day.

The man is alleged to have repeatedly punched a police officer in the head, knocking him unconscious on Thursday night.

Police had been called to a domestic violence incident in Narrowmine in the Central West about 4:00pm Thursday (Christmas Eve).

Upon arrival, the senior constable was allegedly attacked after he got out of his vehicle.

After knocking the police officer out, the man stole his radio and smashed the police vehicle’s windscreen before throwing it across the road.

A member of the public rendered first aid to the officer until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived.

A number of police arrived on the scene shortly after and the 27-year old man, still at the scene, was arrested and taken to Narromine Police Station.

The officer was taken to Narromine Hospital before being conveyed to Dubbo Hospital for further treatment, after which he was released.

The Narromine man was charged and refused bail ahead of an appearance before Dubbo Bail Court on Friday (Christmas Day).
