BATHURST, Central West, NSW, Australia – A Bathurst man appeared in a Central West court on Sunday after he allegedly punched and headbutted a police officer.

The man had been caught speeding at around 3:20pm on Saturday afternoon on White Rock Road, Kelso, just south of Bathurst,

His Toyota Camry was spotted by Chifley Highway Patrol doing 100 kilometres and hour in a sixty kilometre an hour zone.

The man, who lives in Bathurst, was pulled over and was asked to take a roadside breath test which he refused.

The man attempted to drive away, before the officer removed the keys from the ignition and instructed him to exit the vehicle.

He got out of the car and allegedly punched the senior constable, a man, in the face multiple times, before he headbutted the officer.

The officer deployed OC spray and the man was restrained and arrested.

He was taken to Bathurst Police Station, where a breath test returned a positive result. A subsequent breath analysis recorded a reading of 0.09.

The man was refused bail ahead of his appearance before the Dubbo Bail Court on Sunday.

The senior constable sustained soft tissue damage and attended Bathurst Hospital for assessment.
